Remember when Ford Motor Company introduced the new Ford F-Series to the media in 2004? In order to confuse their competitors, during the media preview, Ford purposely under-estimated the new trucks's towing capability Seizing the opportunity, Nissan quickly announced that their new Titan could out-tow Ford's venerable F-Series. At least, based on Ford's figures that they released to the media. However, when the F-Series acutally came out, Ford revised their tow figures, easily beating Nissan's best. Is was a coup to Ford as they outmanouvered Nissan. The same thing essentially happened to the original 2007 Shelby GT500 horsepower and torque figures. After two revisions, the GT500 ended up producing 500 horsepower. Can we expect the same trickery from Ford and Shelby in regard to the 2008 Shelby GT500KR? Photos from Carroll Shelby's visit to Ford's Dearborn Proving Grounds (DDC).
After Carroll Shelby visted Ford's Dearborn Proving Grounds (DDC) this past Friday, Ford said that the GT500KR's horsepower was now estimated to be at 550, up from the 540 they announced in New York | GT500KR News |. With Chevrolet's Camaro and Chrysler's Challenger coming, could Ford be released low horsepower figures in order to confuse the competition? It wouldn't be the first time. Of course, for either Chevrolet or Chrysler to beat Shelby, they would both have to consider that Shelby will not only offer the GT500, with its 500 horsepower or the GT500KR's with its estimated 540 horsepower. They would also have to consider Shelby's upcoming GT500 SuperSnake |article |, which is available in either an estimated 600 or 725 horsepower version. The GT500KR and GT500 Super Snake versions will be completed at Shelby's Las Vegas, Nevada assembly plant. |
